Las Vegas Now Has an Active Non-Profit Reptile Rescue
A new 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Second Chance Reptile Rescue, has officially formed to serve the Las Vegas Valley's captive reptile community.
While older online listings for local reptile rescues belong to retired organizations that are no longer active, our organization was established to build a long-term safety net for captive reptiles in Southern Nevada.
Current Intake Status: Paused for Facility Acquisition
*Intakes Currently Closed: We are not accepting direct owner surrenders at this time.
*Focus on Facility Expansion: Operating out of private foster space quickly hits capacity limits. To maintain strict quarantine standards and proper species-specific environments, we are keeping intakes paused while working toward securing a dedicated physical facility in Las Vegas.
How We Are Currently Supporting the Community
*Rehoming Navigation: Assisting owners with safe placement advice and referrals to local resources.
*Husbandry Guidance: Providing keepers with environmental parameter targets, heating setup advice, and care information to help resolve keeping challenges before surrender becomes necessary.
*Building a Foster Network: Connecting with experienced local keepers interested in onboarding as future foster homes once organizational expansion is underway.
*Community Advocacy: Supporting responsible non-native pet ownership across the valley.
Immediate Local Surrender Alternatives
If you have an urgent rehoming need, local specialty reptile shops in the valley - such as Scales 'N Tails and LLLReptile - frequently accept captive surrenders, particularly when accompanied by complete enclosure setups. For emergencies involving immediate abandonment or eviction where private options fail, contact The Animal Foundation on Mojave Road.
Intake Scope & Boundaries
*Captive Species Only: We focus entirely on domestic terrarium species (snakes, geckos, lizards).
*No Native Wildlife: We do not accept, trap, or rehabilitate native Nevada wildlife (such as wild-caught lizards or desert tortoises).
