UNDERAPPRECIATED TREES - trees, plants, liminal spaces, community hang (chesterfield)
WHAT: Hang out with an underappreciated tree, meet other like minded people while violating repressive social conventions and norms WHEN: Wednesday, June 10th @ 7pm WHERE: The Russian Olive Tree behind the MJR at 23 and Gratiot in Chesterfield. Though not native to Michigan, this Russian Olive tree is beautiful, and is underappreciated. Join us as we hang out with this tree. We'll probably play some music. Offer some tobacco. Mostly this is about spending some time with cool tree that never gets any attention. But it's also an opportunity to take advantage of an interesting area where there's virtually nobody around. It feels a bit like a liminal space. In the spirit of Dr. Bradley Garret, it is a public place that can be inhabited and celebrated in an urban exploring type of fashion. Essentially, part of the idea here is to step outside of the usual invisible social contracts that govern our collective reality, hang out with a tree, and maybe even meet like minded people. Be in community where there previously wasn't any. AMPLE parking behind the MJR/Hamlin pub. We will mostly hang out on the sidewalk and beside the tree, which are both public property. This is an actual event that is about trees and community. As such, please feel free to message me with questions, but please don't send me anything inappropriate.
