Good Day, I'd like to start a group that meets once a week or so somewhere for coffee to discuss and help one another to navigate the current job market. I work part-time now but obviously that is not sustainable long-term. I have decades of experience in various fields (office administration, retail, even cleaning and Uber driving when times are tight, etc.). I own dependable transportation (as in a steering wheel, not handlebars on an overgrown skateboard) and have no drug or alcohol issues. I don't even smoke or vape! I wear work-appropriate clothing, don't have tattoos or septum rings and don't expect that I can bring my puppy to work (generally the characteristics of someone over 55, haha). No haters, please, on those last bits; it's just a generational difference. I am affable, teachable, presentable and can easily pass any background check, yet I'm invisible in the job market and I can't figure out why. Yes, there's always the option of becoming a third-party Amazon driver, but that is a 10-12 hour gig from what I can tell and they're not exactly clawing to hire folks over 50. There has to be something I can do besides being a Wal Mart greeter (no offense if you are one; but I'll think about that in about 10 years). I'm frustrated with duplicate and "fake" ads, not getting my application seen by human eyes and running the online application obstacle course/gauntlet to properly apply to jobs that might not even be legitimate. What gives? I understand Ai and other programs separate the wheat from the chaff in the process but come on. It would be great to be able to meet with women around my age to enjoy a little camaraderie and discuss strategies. I'm in the midst of using the tools on the AARP website as well as "Employ Florida/Silver Edition" but it would still be nice to chat with a real person over a cup of coffee to compare notes. :) Please respond via CL relay and I'll get back to you ASAP.
