Hi there, I have learned there are some volunteer Peer Support Specialists and am wondering if anyone would be interested in volunteering to be on site at an outdoor literary event at Barnsdall Park on Sat, Aug 22, from 6:30-9pm. We have had experiences at other outdoor events where people grab the mic and take over. In the past, the police have been called, and we don't want that unless someone is truly a danger to themselves or others. I have the Access and Circle numbers, but we'd love to have someone or a team on site (there is already a security guard) who has compassion and empathy to help deescalate if someone becomes agitated. We are a volunteer-led, non-profit organization and have received some money from the neighborhood arts council to help with our festival, but that doesn't cover all our costs, so we don't have the funds to pay someone and it would have to be volunteers. I did hear some peer support specialists were volunteers. I'm very sensitive to this issue as my sister has schizophrenia. Thanks for any help!
