Outlaw Country/Americana/Old-Time
Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist lookin fr other musicians in/around kzoo who would be interested in startin up a project. Also open to jumpin into a project already started, if'n yr lookin fr a frontwoman. I've got around 15 songs ready to go lyric-wise. Workin on basic musical structure and melody fr a couple of'em, but nothin on solid ground rn as far as that goes and everything is fluid and flexible once I get with some other folks.
Influences and sounds I'd like to be drawin from musically include: Willi Carlisle, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Garth Brooks, Utah Phillips, Sturgill Simpson, Patsy Cline, 16 Horsepower, Bascom Lamar Lunsford, Marty Stuart, Red City Radio, Cory Branan, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Adeem the Artist, O'Death, Flatt & Scruggs, The Almanac Singers, Wynonna, Against Me!, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, The Osborne Brothers, Chet Atkins, The Goddamn Gallows, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, George Jones, Big Momma Thornton, The Haymarket Squares, Dylan Earl, Tom Waits, Jimi Hendrix, John Anderson, Barbara Mandrell, Woody Guthrie, Katzenjammer, Bonnie Prince Billy, Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Kesha, Murder By Death, Townes Van Zandt, Th' Legendary Shack Shakers, Dwight Yoakum, The Chicks, Justin Townes Earle, Karen and The Sorrows
I sing, write, and play guitar, banjo, and bass(but don't wanna play bass in the band bc it's hard for me to sing and play bass at the same time). As I am largely trying to build an outlet for the things I write, I'd like my role to be frontwoman, primary songwriter, and bandleader/conductor, while maintainin a collaborative and equitable environment. I don't see myself playin an instrument on every song, as I really wanna focus on writing and vocal delivery. I'd be lookin fr another singer/instrumentalist to share lead vocal duties sometimes, and instrumentation-wise lookin fr bass(standup or electric), lead electric guitar, banjo, piano/organ, lap or pedal steel, fiddle, and maybe a drummer(might have one lined up already). Multi-instrumentalists are very welcome, and I envision everyone havin a vocal mic and sharin songwritin duties.
I'd also like to see this to become somethin of a theatrical project, with costume/wardrobe plannin & coordination, makeup/face paint/masks, and set dressins. Maybe even bringin in one or two wardrobe/makeup/set artists as full members of the band.
I want to work hard, get songs polished and recorded, and play shows.
One last note: I got absolutely zero interest in gettin together with modern political conservatives/maga/nationalists, which I know is a risk I run playing country music. I am an outlaw country traditionalist with family roots in WV Appalachia & only the second generation outta the mines, who cut her teeth playin gospel music and loves her country & all the people who make it up, sittin on the side of and supportive of civil rights for all enslaved(of every type), formerly enslaved, and marginal communities(rural, indigenous/native, black, brown, 2SLGBTQIA+); immigrant rights and makin immigration way easier(in an idealistic sense, I am a border abolitionist); reparation and land-back movements; feminism; queer and trans liberation; prison abolition; housin fr all who want it and resources & rights fr all who don't; labor unions; wealth redistributin; absolute religious freedom & recognition fr any and all; re-establishin' the Commons and free movement; moonshinin; granny magic; responsible, restrictive, and widespread gun ownership; anti-imperialism; direct democracy; burnin down the surveillance state, military-industrial complex, & corporate monopolies; and hangin Confederates, Nazis, Klan members, robber barons, woman-beaters, & them as hurt kids. Taxes oughtta be heavy on the wealthy and easy on the poor, funding rich comprehensive public education, public infrastructure projects, preservin and conservin our planet's natural beauty and resources, and extensive social welfare programs such as: free localized food; subsidizin multi-crop small farmers; bustin monopolies and harmful industrial practices; free education at all levels; eminent-domainin corporately held land and resources; free, beautiful, and well-stewarded national, state, and local parks and preserves; comprehensive physical & mental healthcare; home and land ownership; and investment in the arts & humanities, to include well-funded libraries, museums, & theatres, as well as comprehensive grants fr orchestras & bands, visual artists, writers & poets, and the performin arts. The government oughtta be full of regular folk, be big in areas of human and planetary well-being, and(other than in instances of harms & crimes against humans, animals, and the planet) stay the fuck outta our places of gather & worship, livin rooms, bedrooms, and pants.
Let's make some fuckin' noise.
